Sunday 6th August – Windsurf *** River Stour at Wrabness – sunny periods.

Foil – 19.34 knot max, 17.92 knot ave, 11.19 knot hour, 15.56 knot mile, 48.07 km., 14.77 knot alpha.

Starboard Freeride 150 and a Evolution Freeride foil with a Tushingham Storrm 5.2.

After yesterdays washout of a day, absolutely loads of rain Sunday dawned much better,, even had some sunshine and with the good breeze from the NW I had agreed to meet up with fellow windsurfer Jason at Wrabness around midday to make the most of the 4.08 high tide. This gave me enough time to do my exercises in the garden while Mag sorted out her garden which had taken a real bashing from yesterdays strong winds, Storm Antoni had a lot to answer for! Jason had messaged at 10.51 fromm Wrabness saying there was loads of water and wind gusting to 25 knots, Mag and I left Felixstowe at 11.15 and headed across the border for the first time since 7th June, we are definitely not keen on travelling these days! Jason was the only car there so we parked easily, parking is limited here and by mid afternoon it was full with several wingers turning up! I took my foil board to the small beach to check the conditions just as Jason was heading out on his 120 lt. fin board with 5.8, it did look windy but up and down. Jason set off towards Holbrook school but ti looked too gusty for me to fin so I went with the foil. Sail choice is a lottery for river sailing and in the end went with 5.2 which was OK, too big in the gusts, too small in the lulls! The tide was in nicely now and I did not have to wade out too far and was soon flying towards Holbrook school but the wind then eased and I was tempted to head back and change to 6.5 but in the end I was glad I didn’t as we got some really big gusts with the river being particularly lumpy today, I will not be in a hurry to return to the Stour with the wind from the NW, Jason who stuck with his fin gear today also said the conditins were not great! I then beat up to Mistley and had some good runs with a few now launching from Bradfeild, in fact it got quite crowded today with at least 10 wingers out, that has definitely taken off now! A few foilerrs and the odd fin sailer, a rare sight these days! Nothing fast today as too gusty and lumpy with gybing not the best either but still lasted the best part of three hours before returning to see how Mag day had gone? Over lunch she said had walked around Wrabness Nature Reserve getting enough blackberries for a crumble. Had a nice chat with Shaun from F-hot who sadly had damaged his wing and gps watch today! So not my best ever session on the stour but at leadt we got some sunshine today and Ipswich won their first game in the Championship:)
